Years back when the Greater Falmouth Mostly All-Male Men’s Chorus was alive and well, our director Tom Goux introduced a song for us to sing at the town’s Memorial Day commemoration. It was called “Cover Them Over With Beautiful Flowers” by Will Carlton (or Carleton)(1845-1912), a well-known poet of the late 19th-early 20th Century who has over the years evidently slipped into almost total obscurity. He deserves better, perhaps. (None of the biographic material online mentions this poem.) God bless him and those fallen heroes of wars past (and, alas, to come) that he commemorates so movingly.
